Well the reviews were mixed today after seeing the film Barbara. The rating by the group ranged from 2.5 - 4 (scale 0 - 5). Some said it was tedious and bleak, others stated it showed the main character's redemption of spirit by sacrificing her own freedom for that of another. The ending struck a hopeful note, but upon reflection one wonders what will happen to Barbara now, after her rebellious actions. It was mentioned, the Berlin wall was to fall in 1989, and Barbara would have her freedom after all.

The next two film dates are March 10 and April 14, for the first matinee film of the day. I will endeavor to provide some warning of the upcoming date, via email, and a link to the Hyland website, so you can take a look at the film we plan to view. See you next month!

We will be meeting Feb 10, 2013 at 12:45 pm to watch "Barbara" at the Hyland Cinema. It is a German film set in 1980. See you all there!

A Late Quartet was our film for Jan 13, 2013. Everyone in the group was very impressed by the quality of the film -- the acting, the photography, the music and the directing. Rated from 0-5, we all said it was 4 or better. A great way to start our foray into films.

The plan is to meet on the second Sunday of the month, at the Hyland Cinema for the first matinee film of the day. We then travel to The Village Room, at the Wortley Roadhouse, to discuss our impressions of the film. Anne and Sheila are the official organizers of this group. Joanne is the creator of the blog, reviewer of films, and the unofficial organizer of the group.

See that fellow in the back? He wonders what this group of people is investigating. Little does he know, this is the first meeting of the SLR Friends of the Hyland, and we need somewhere to meet!

 The Village Room at the Wortley Roadhouse seems to be just what the group is looking for -- a quiet area to have a drink, enjoy a snack, and discuss the merits of the film we've just seen.
