Everyone was impressed by the film Life of Pi. The general consensus was, it's a 5 (scale of 0-5). The photography and digital imaging is amazing. You would swear Pi is in that boat with the Bengal tiger.
The film is all about stories. The stories presented by religions (Christianity, Buddhism and Islam), and the 2 stories told by Pi about his adventure on the ocean. Pi's spiritual journey is at the heart of the film. He begins his spiritual education on land by reading key works which delve into an exploration of the inner world which exists within each of us. He also listens closely to stories told by his mother and other teachers. He is then tested on the ocean. It is on the ocean, adrift in a boat shared with a tiger, that he experiences complete surrender and acceptance. He has an experience of the Devine.
When Pi survives the ocean journey, and rejoins civilization, we are confronted with the 2 stories he tells about his adventure. We wonder which story is the true one? Are they both true? Whatever the answer, we begin to realize how we humans love our stories. And in this case, through our "suspension of disbelief," we are allowed to experience a wonderful adventure which gives us a greater understanding of the inner Life of Pi.
